PROFESSIONAL PROJECTS

The following projects I designed as a part of my three-session industrial co-op. Every project involved manufacturing parts to help with processes around the plant. Every project was completely my responsibility and involved taking measurements on the floor. All of the modeling and mechanical drafting was done in NX. Most of the projects are made from laser-cut steel that's bent, welded, and powder-coated.

Belt Guard Project

This was part of a directive to improve plant safety. The project involved designing many different unique guards specific to each conveyor belt.

Phoscoat Door Tray

The goal of this project was to design a ledge to hold the barrel doors. These doors get removed by the operators when they unload barrels.

Phoscoat Gear Guard System

This project involved creating an upper and lower guard system for the gears that turn the phosphating barrels. These guards had to be designed to be dimensionally universal and use a universal mounting mechanism. The lower part mounts to the drive motors, and the upper part mounts to the barrel frame assembly.

Oil Separating Tank Cover

The goal of this project was to cover an oil-separating tank. Doors were added to the cover to provide access for cleaning. The cover was made from stainless steel.

Created New Perforation Pattern And Assembly Drawing For Phoscoat Barrels

For this project, I created new mechanical drawings to get new barrels manufactured. Some revisions were requested so the perforation pattern needed changing, and a new assembly was created that involved other alterations.

Designed A Standard Plant Spray Tray

For this project, I was tasked to design a standard tray to hold spray bottles and cleaning towels around the plant.

Phoscoat Enclosure System

The goal of this project was to close off the dangerous areas of the unloader mechanism fully. This involved integrating switches on the door to disable operations when access is needed for maintenance. The enclosure required an upper box, lower wall, and a triangular section.

80/20 Pinch Guard

This project aimed to guard a pinch point caused by how the machinery rolled. I designed a transparent guard from 80/20 components and polycarbonate already on site.

Phoscoat Hoists E-STOP System

The goal of this project was to replace the existing hardware of the hoist E-stop system with new stainless steel components. The design was also slightly revised, splitting the middle rod and allowing easier repairability

Punch Press Scrap Chute Guards

This project aimed to prevent access into the scrap chute guillotine during operations. To accomplish this I designed a unique guard for each press that had an interlocked hinge to kill power if the guard gets lifted.

Reverse-Engineered Manufacturing Cell Belt Frame

For this project, I was tasked with reverse-engineering a part that broke on a manufacturing cell. This part was a frame piece with many threaded holes that needed to be dimensioned properly. This involved taking many measurements to model a replacement accurately.
