Project Hex Light

PERSONAL PROJECTS

The following projects were 100% designed and built by me. All the projects were modeled in Fusion 360, Inventor, or NX. The projects were made through woodworking with simple power tools, 3D printing, CNC milling, and plasma cutting. Unfortunately, I have not been able to manufacture every project, thus some of the projects are conceptual.

Twisted Copper

Twisted copper was designed freehand and made from scrap wood. The shapes were cut using a jigsaw and finished with lots of sanding and paint. The pegs holding the LED strip were 3D printed. For this light, I experimented by wrapping the LED strip in copper tape with a cotton strip.

Snaking Aurora

Snaking Aurora is a 4 ft by 3 ft wall light made out of plywood, brass hardware, and 3D printed components. The panels were cut with a hand-operated jigsaw tracing a D-sized scale drawing. The panels are bolted together with 3D-printed support arms and spacers in between. The arms, spacers, and panels were all designed with holes and grooves to allow the LED strip to pass through seamlessly. A smart color-changing LED strip illuminates the light.

Hexagon

Hexagon is a 3 ft by 5 ft wall light that was made from 3D printed hexagons using three different filaments. To assemble the light I used epoxy to glue the creation together. Lighting is accomplished using a color-changing smart LED strip.

Spiral

Spiral is a concept wall light that's to be made from three different metals. The three metals spiral around each other resting on a frame that spaces them out. A smart color-changing LED strip on the back.

Hex Air Hockey Rink

Hex Air is an air hockey table concept made from stainless steel as well as powder-coated steel. It's designed with airflow even on a table and has smart color-changing LED lighting beneath the rink surface.

TV Stand

This fine piece of furniture was designed in CAD and fully built by me. The project was made with minimal tools using a jigsaw to make the cuts.

Coffee Table

This fine piece of furniture was designed in CAD and fully built by me. The project was made with minimal tools using a jigsaw to make the cuts.

Bench

FEA Hexagon Barrel

The hexagon barrel was initially designed as a part of the class project. The goal of the project was to conduct finite element analysis and make improvements to the design. My final design was so interesting I decided to laser cut it out of stainless steel. I added a hole in one end so I could use it as a container or put lights inside and use it as a lantern.

Stainless Slopes

Steel Slopes 2.0! This version was fabricated from stainless steel. For the design, I changed the engravings to include half skiers and half snowboarders. I also made changes to the overall cut-out geometry and added a sun. Additionally, I designed a new hexagon-themed support arm for the light. Illuminated by smart color-changing LED strip.

Steel Slopes

Steel Slopes is made from sheet steel and is roughly 2 ft square. The etching and cutting were done on a plasma cutter. Illumination is achieved using a color-changing smart LED strip.

Hex Angle

Hex Angle is a concept of light that stretches the gap between the wall and ceiling. This light would be made from a thin frame made out of metal with glued multicolored hexagons to form a mosaic. A smart color-changing light strip will be mounted to the back.

Carbon Monitor

Carbon Monitor is a portable monitor made from a custom housing and an LCD panel. The housing of the monitor was made of CNC-machined carbon fiber.

Side Table

This fine piece of furniture was designed in CAD and fully built by me. The project was made with minimal tools using a jigsaw to make the cuts.

Lunch Table

Custom-designed 3D Printed Objects

Owning a 3D printer, there have been many times I've needed to solve a problem and decided to design a custom solution.
